  The lecture will present the example of the Finnish resort Levi, one of the largest ski destinations in Scandinavia and a leader in sustainable winter tourism. At a time when climate change significantly affects the length of the winter season, snow quality, and the stability of mountain ecosystems, Levi is systematically working to reduce its carbon footprint and adapt to new conditions. The lecture will introduce concrete measures – from the use of renewable energy sources and energy-efficient snowmaking technologies, to responsible infrastructure planning and cooperation with the local community and visitors. It will also open a discussion on how winter tourism can transform to remain economically viable and environmentally sustainable in the long term.
